Wabash, IN January 2009 - Level I

Has it really been over a year since the last DPS workshop!?

The APA/DPS workshop (the American Pianist Association sponsors a special DPS workshop dedicated to their five finalists before they enter in to the competition phase) was supposed to happen in September 08, but was cancelled due to scheduling problems.

This January DPS drew participants from all over the country, but in particular from Bloomington, IN, where I have been doing residencies this year. With luck, that association will continue and flourish, and the workshop will also continue and flourish because of it.

Pianists Kate Boyd, Mark De Zwaan, Jayoung Kim, Yesong Na, Ignacio Prego, Johann Weisse and Jackie Weitz arrived in sub-zero temperatures and left on a warm and sunny winter day.

Our work centered around the Scarlatti Sonata K. 541 in F Major, and cooking the usual handmade pasta. Congratulations to this group - one of the most efficient!

I’m looking forward to scheduling the March session as a Level II (Finally!) with the outgoing enthusiasm of this session plus a few alumni who have been persistently asking.
